All four members of band ‘Viola Beach’ and their manager Craig Tarry have been killed in a car accident in Stockholm, Sweden.
It is understood that the car they were travelling in veeredthrough a barrier, onto a bridge that was opening to let a cargo ship pass underneath – and consequently crashed into the water.
Swedish police divers have recovered the bodies of the victims, confirming that the car fell more than 82ft from the bridge, to the canal below.
An officer working the case said:
“A barrier, 50m before the opening, has flashing lights and signs warning there is a bridge opening.
For some reason, the car drove through the barriers and crashed down into the canal.”
The accident happened last night, in dark and slippery conditions. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of this accident.
Vocalist Kris Leonard, guitarist River Reeves, Bassist Tomas Lowe, drummer Jack Dakin, and manager Craig Tarry were in Stockholm for the band’s performance at the ‘Where’s the Music?’ festival.
They were due to perform in Guildford last night, along with another band, who – in light of this tragedy – cancelled.
Tributes for ‘Viola Beach’ have been pouring in:
Our thoughts are with Kris, River, Tomas, Jack and Craig’s families and friends.
