90’s kids, rejoice! TLC is coming back tomainstream in a big way.
Thanks to a fan base devoidof scrubs, the girl group raised enough cash via Kickstarter ($430,255, to be exact) to fund its latest album, and the tunes are goingto kick it old school.
It’s been nearly two decades since we’reheard an album from TLC. The untimely car crash death of member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes put a damper on the band’s mainstream success in 2002.
Theirfourth studio album,3D, was released seven months after Lopes’ death, and the remaining members, Tionne “T. Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, never returned to the studio for a full-length album. But now they’re ready!
The group wants tohonor Lisa and their classic 90’s R&B-meets-pop soundwith the new record. And from the sounds of how things are going,it’s right on track.
The surviving duo has scored veteran record producer Ron Fair for the new album, which will be packed with “old soul music,” Fair told Renman Music & Business in a YouTube interview.
“Its 90s throwback music,” Fair says.“Its vintage TLC and I can tell you that their vocals sound exactly the way they did the last time you heard them.”
The 90’s are back full force in fashion, and now we have the tunes to accompany our threads. Thanks, TLC!
