  1. I usually like your reviews but you have gone about it all wrong for this
car. You need to understand what this car means to the car culture.Sure its
slow by today’s standards. But 128 hp in the early 80’s ? How is that even
bad? That was amazing from a 1.6 L engine back then. Especially on an
engine that revs to 8000 rpm. This was a car you could daily drive AND have
fun. IT IS A FUN CAR! You didn’t even mention that in your review. Where
today can you buy a 18K-22K brand new, japanese reliable, RWD, fun car
which is practical to drive every day. No where, they don’t make them. That
is what this car represented. That is why every car enthusiast wanted one.
And the balance of the car made it ideally suited to the touge and high
speed drifting done by street racers in japan. No questions, for its time
and for its status it is the best car ever made.

    • Suboptimus Lime But either way if that’s not a copied text from the
net, then you must have a really loads of free time on you life

    • What relevance does it have how much it cost at one point? I somehow doubt
that the car prices have scaled with general inflation, because vegetables,
cars and computers don’t really belong in the same shopping basket.
Besides, in EU the mid 80ies Corolla GT-S would have cost an equivalent of
$50000-ish in today’s money according to general inflation.

  2. See your body into the moonlight
Even if I try to cancel
All the pictures into the mind
There’s a flashing in my eyes

Don’t you see my commission, the nation
    Has gone running again
    Can’t you see now, illusions
    Right into your mind

    Deja vu
I’ve just been in this place before
    Higher on the street
And I know it’s my time to go
Calling you, and the search is a mystery
    Standing on my feet
It’s so hard when I try to be me, woah

    Deja vu
I’ve just been in this time before
    Higher on the beat
And I know it’s a place to go
Calling you and the search is a mystery

It’s so hard when I try to be me, yeah

See the future into the present
See my past leaves in the distance
Try to guess now what’s going on
And the band begins to play

  3. wasn’t the point of the anime that the dude was winning in spite of his car
rather than because of it? It turns nice, it’s a nice ride, but it has
absolutely no business whatsoever street racing.

    • m3ntl3g3n He is actually the reason the 86 is a cult classic in Japan. Not
because it was actually that great. In fact most japanese sports cars are
pretty mediocre. Its the aftermarket culture that has made many of them
legends; NSX, GT-R and 2JZ Supras excepted.

  4. I didn’t buy this car because of the show. I bought it because I actually
    like the car.

Shut up. If a Daewoo was the main car on the show you would have bought it

  5. 128 horsepower is certainly enough power to spill a cup of water.
However, if you were to use the aftermarket cupholder, it might not be
enough power. Looks like a pretty sturdy cupholder.

    • Well, it was decent. The Sprinter’s light weight is what made it fast. And
it had great handling. Fun car, in my opinion. I saw an authentic AE86 a
few months ago when I was at a Sacramento car show. It brought back
      memories of watching Initial D.

    • Had an 89 Supra Turbo, the model right after it split from the Celica, that
made 235. While 128 HP is respectable from a 1.6, it wasn’t necessarily
      “fast for the 80s”

  6. This is probably my 3rd favorite car just behind rx-7 and supra. My choices
probably made me look like a giant fucking weeabo.

  7. “no car is more hyped than the AE86”
there is also the BMW E46 M3 GTR or in layman’s terms, the car that was on
the cover of/in Need For Speed: Most Wanted
